Guardian Games Uncovers Destiny’s Hidden Lore: The Secret Stories Rising to the Surface

For many years, the Destiny community thought they knew the story—but the latest Guardian Games quietly exposed lore threads that rewrite everything we assumed about the universe.

Stories Guardian Games Brings To The Light

If you’re lost all track of what’s been happening in Destiny since… well forever? Then this might be a helpful read to get you up to speed.

Since the release of Guardians games there has been a lot of movement from key character in Tharsis Outpost, The Last City and the Barant Imperium. A specific lore entry called Entry 5: A Conduit for All Futures gives a short history about Premier Lume and his Cabal, Torobatl, and Dredgen Bael.

The entry visits the mindset of the Barant Imperium collectively, shedding light on their idolization of the Cabal home world Torobatl—dreaming with hope to one day reclaim, and rejoin their home world not as outcasts, but as equals.

Later in the entry, perspective shifts from Lume to Dredgen Bael. Providing us with insight behind how he became a Dregden, but more importantly. How access to Darkness aligned subclasses were possible for him in the first place.

It tells us about rumoured power on Europa, a long forgotten Praxic Temple. All from a first-person perspective. Bael describes rooms so dense with dark, the chants of worries Barant Cabal would not echo within. And its toward the end of the entry things get interesting. VI (Saturn) is mentioned. As one a member of the Nine.

But it also makes reference to another entity, one who pits civilizations of the universe against one another. So, what does this all mean? As Destiny’s story extends to the reach of outer space, the stakes are getting bigger. I wouldn’t be surprised if The Winnower is somehow working with the dark faction members of The Nine, or some other unknown entity. Anything is possible in Destiny.

How The Update Reflects The State of Destiny Community?

Guardian games is back! And with it comes a lot more loot, some reprised and others brand, brand new! Amongst the long list there are some I think are worth mentioning:

  • Triple Laureate — Stasis Hand Cannon
A new primary that fills a niche players were asking for: a Stasis‑aligned HC with strong PvE perk potential. It’s positioned to be the “headline” weapon of the event.
  • The Beacon — Solar Fusion Rifle
A new Solar special with perk combinations that make it appealing for both add-clear and burst damage setups. It’s part of the Renegades-era loot refresh.

To name a few, there are also the Heir Apparent (Catalyst TBC), and Keraunios — Arc Trace Rifle. Just a few somewhat exciting drops to keep an eye on if you’re out there storming Nessus or the Frontiers of Tharsis Outpost.

There has actually been a significant rise returning for the tradition of fun Guardian games, and this has truly been great and encouraging to see since pre- and post-Renegades expansion.

How Does The Story Move Forward?

Bungie made some pretty significant changes to Destiny, after a history of employee shuffling, and a major shift in business direction. The community still hungers for clarity about Destiny’s future now that the Final shape arc has concluded and the Fate Saga continues to move forward.

If I can be honest for a moment. I felt it too, in the month’s pre-Edge of Fate and post-Renegades. Things took an unexpected twist in a way no one predicted. There were massive overhauls to Destiny’s wider systems, and gameplay loop that many (myself included), just didn’t enjoy. — Resulting in a strange tug of war between Sony, Bungie Developers, and Destiny players that lasted forever.

When a new dawn was promised, the Portal came. This change made many players and content creators feel their voices weren’t valued. Anyone can say “it’s just a game,” but the stories, shared experiences and choices made to Destiny can have impact on people’s lives. And I think this is an important metric to measure when developing games. Game development is a pinnacle art form that combines multiple creatives arts and industries.

A dangerous weight, that requires truthy care, honesty, and wisdom to wield.

What A Conduit for All Futures Suggests About Destiny’s Next Era — and the Destiny 3 Question

Destiny’s narrative threads have cleverly been shifting from cosmic to internal threads, and character-driven storytelling. This is significant, because we as players need a boots-on-the-ground sense of purpose in Destiny’s story. One where you as a player feel connected to the universe and its alien inhabitants.

Now, I’ll be the first to put my hand up and say I noticed a change in writing. From the moment Edge of Fate arrived. And while I mostly enjoyed it, at times it felt a little uncomfortable. I could spot where marketing found its way into Destiny’s universal narrative— as though I cranked open a pack of sour Haribo, and got hit with a sharp twang flavour on my taste buds (insert sweating emoji here).

Yeah! It just felt weird, and rhetorically it makes me wonder how this was allowed?

My respect and admiration for Bungie’s narrative team is through the roof! And I have no doubt that finding a way to make last-minute changes, dropped on their table, make sense narratively can be an exciting, but an extremely fatiguing process too! Especially when the pitched ideas that have no real legs to stand on.

Yet quietly and eerily the possibility Bungie is preparing the ground for new Guardian roles, new Light/Dark interactions, or a re-entering of the Guardian’s personal journey could be on the horizon!? Destiny is a strange world full of light and hope. Blessing many of us new friends, family, or sparking the right thunder crash we needed for positive change to enter our lives.

How About A Destiny 3?

In an ideal situation, and if all ducks were in a row developmentally for the Bungie team, then yes. I would love to see Destiny move on to a D3. After learning and working in game development myself, I understand what such an idea means.

The concept of launching such a title creates a fascinating conversation. Would the tiger engine (Destiny 2’s current game engine) be used to create something like this? Just as it has been done with Marathon the game.

Narratively it makes sense, at this point in time we require the scope of Destiny to increase and gameplay to transform alongside it. Remaining in the current state would stagnate the flow between storytelling and gameplay experiences.

You only need to look at ambitious titles like No Man Sky which cost under $3 million to produce, or Crimson Desert’s published costing $133 million. While Destiny 2 doesn’t have a public development cost. Original Destiny back in 2014 cost $140+ million.

Without getting to far into the weeds here, I think the most important question to ask is whether starting a new journey for Destiny is what Bungie needs as a studio, or for the players and wider-community. A lot of negativity gets directed towards them due to failed leadership, or the willingness to hear dissenting voices and course-correct quickly. I don’t think breezing past this is healthy for people as developers, executives, or players.

How do we move forward from here?

Now, I’m not an expert in this. Bringing the right amount of change requires wisdom, humility, and skill. One of the ideas that shapes how I think about moments like this comes from Matthew 7:12: “Whatever you want others to do to you, do also to them.” It’s a reminder to me that empathy and integrity matter, especially when people are under pressure.

With so many layoffs across the industry — not just at Bungie — it feels like a moment to pause and ask how we can build healthier, more joyful creative spaces. Games thrive when the people making them are supported, and when communities feel heard rather than divided.

Destiny 3 is something I would love to see both as a narrative lore enthusiast and a gamer. But it needs to be a financially safe, healthy, and balanced choice for the studio and their staff as a whole.
