Echoes: Act 2 Everything you need to know.
If this is your first time catching up on the story of Echoes? Welcome Back! Acts 2 picks up on the heels of the Vex in the location of Nessus, The Cistern has been completely drained and the Well of Flame has been terraformed by a mysterious entity called the Conductor.
Guardians are tasked with spelunking to the bottom of the well, where you will encounter a Vex Minotaur named: Kamarian, Radial Overseer. Very little is known about this Vex unit. According to Saint-14, it controls the flow of all Radiolaria on Nessus.
Once enough Vex Code Mutations are collected. FailSafe will be able to analyse the data and upgrade her protocols to and begin scanning the flow of Radiolaria into the Well of Flame to find out where it is being diverted to.
According to Ikora, if the Conductor were able to move this kind of Radiolaria off-world, it would be possible for it to gain control of other
Previously on Destiny
In Act One, it had been discovered that eons of the Black Fleet‘s salvation and death surged. Its darkness merged with the Traveler‘s light, taking form in memory and then into a new shape during the unmaking of the Witness. After its defeat, many of these anomalous objects called Echoes were rocketed out of the Traveler towards different regions within the Sol system.
One such Echoe landed on the centaur planet, named Nessus. Occupied almost exclusively by a techno-organic race named the Vex. The raw terraformative power of this Echoe has effects the planetary structure and began to transform the local Vex units.
During a mission, Saint-14 is body-snatched and brainwashed into thinking he isn’t the real Saint-14. The first act ends with him residing what he heard from a voice that spoke to him, named The Conductor.
Dissenting Voices
During the Well of Flame Battleground, Ikora Rey draws a similarity between the Conductor and the Witness. The dissenting voices were minds stolen to the Witness, but banished deep within it’s mind scape, to stop them causing problems.
With the Witness gone, all of these minds and memories are free. Some appear to have become what are Echoes and others? I don’t know.
I think it would be a total disaster if we found out, that the dissenters had found a way to become something other than just disembodied voices. Imagine the chaos and confusion it would create if they were able to materialize and interact with the physical world.
The potential implications on our humanity, our understanding of existence, and the fundamentals of Destiny’s universe are simply unfathomable. If memories of Darkness were able to take on a new shape?
It sounds very much like The Nine’s territory. If the evil faction of the Nine were to get their hands on an Echoe? There is no telling what level of machinations we could be dealing with.
The Conductors Plan
By diverting the flow of new Radiolaria, the Conductor has exhibited the ability to control almost anything on Nessus. If its tests prove successful? Imagine what they could do if this Radiolaria were used off-world.
They could control other sects of Vex and control a vast army.
This logic falls in line with everything that we’ve learned from the Veil containment logs and Maya Sundaresh. A conductor controlling its chorus, who are the Vex.

Just as the Witness tried to do by merging all minds into one being.
Leaderless Shadow Legion Cabal
After Emperor Calus was defeated, his forces were under the service of the Witness and it’s Disciples. Once it died, they become leaderless. There have been many skirmishes between the within the Cabal factions to control the Shadow Legion troops.
There is now a heavy contingent of these mindless clones made for war. The real question is where are they coming from, and who are they serving?
Your guess is as good as mine! There aren’t any major names that come to mind. I’m sure it won’t be long until we find out who. It’s always intriguing to speculate about these things, especially given the range of possibilities. Perhaps it’ll be an up-and-coming talent, or maybe a seasoned veteran amongst Psion ranks making a surprising return to the spotlight.
Working In Shapes
Either way, the anticipation is part of the excitement, isn’t it?
As we dive into the Well of Flame, Ikora mentions something significant that we’ve heard a few times before. How the Vex work in shapes and geometry. And the secret of their plan can be found once their shape is discovered.
This is similar to another subject that Savathun refer to as “The All Edged Lie“. I will write about this more extensively soon, but this sits on the idea that:
- There is more than one shape within the final shape and the flower game
- Multiple angles exist within shapes
To keep it simple, this is a new contingency Savathun had in the works for quite a while. One I’m sure Immaru will be well versed in already.
That’s all for now, stay tuned for more updates on the ongoing saga of Echoes in Destiny 2. The mysteries surrounding The Conductor, the Vex, and the Echoes continue to unravel, shaping the fate of the universe.
Until next time, Guardians!
