A Prologue for Destiny 2

Season of The Splicer and beyond

Endless Night of the Last City, the environment is covered in a vex simulation.

The last city is more alive than it has ever been in Destiny. Not only have we walked the tight rope, slowly and surely new relationships are being forged in the heat of battles and tempered by bonds of forgiveness.

And here, before we get ready for the oncoming storm, we assemble. And despite all the odds set before us in Destiny 2, we find ourselves on the precipice of a new dawn…a new age.

But what do these new relationships bring? In the Season of the Splicer, the Vex make a return and have plunged the Last City into chaos. A simulation, if you will, claiming to be what the Vex call a Dark Future. Right now so many details are unclear, but today I would like to shed some light on the beautiful changes set to grace our screens.

Our quest picks up right at the beginning with a summons from Osiris and Ikora Ray, who has been silent for two whole seasons. However, her presence has been noted in a number of lore entries in Season of The Chosen.

As we return to the makeshift tower of the Last City, we find that things aren’t as they seem. Daytime is instead nighttime, and even familiar faces seem somewhat warped from their usual dispositions.

Understanding that the Vex is behind this simulation, Ikora and Osiris reveal to us that we need the help of an ancient Splicer (Eliksni who possess the power to talk to machines) and ask us to track down Mithrax the Kell of House Light, whom we assist in the Beyond Light campaign story.

With his unique gifts, we will be able to pierce the veil or enter into the Vex network to find the source of the problem and quell the root of the simulation. As a direct result of this new partnership, the HELM has been retrofitted with Fallen technology with the addition of a new chamber bearing the neon symbol of House of Light. Narratively speaking this is a huge deal!

As we/you, the Guardians had previously assisted in providing safe extraction for the Eliksni people being sent to Mithrax to find a new place to call home.

Why is this important?

During the Beyond Light DLC we learned more about the characters, cultures, and practices of the Eliksni people. Though we are still piecing together fragments of The Complete History of The Fallen, we now see them through rose-tinted glasses.

Does that mean the Fallen/Eliksni did wrong? In many situations, they were as their mónica defines “Fallen”, a people who fell from the good graces of the Traveler, and in their desperate hope, they tried to reclaim their former glory. But Fallen doesn’t necessarily mean lost.

As similar reverberations took place within the royal ranks of the Cabal Empire, an empire that was and still is broken. Whether it was the coup on Emperor Calus or the Hive invading the Cabal home world, the numbers of these majestic warriors have fallen, and they too seek refuge from the stark-mad chaos of the darkness. But not war, nor violence, nor brute strength ever gets us what we want truly…does it?

The most exciting part of Fallen technology entering into our midst means there has been some level of acceptance of the Fallen by the Vanguard. This sends a very big signal to the people of the Last City, that some Fallen are no longer enemies, and we can trust the good in them.

I can just picture a sprawling marketplace in Destiny with Humans, Awoken, Fallen, and Cabal bartering, laughing, or even sharing a meal and a drink together and that is exciting!

Now we stand at the summit, looking out toward the horizon at a new future in the mad alien super world of our chemical reality. We have hope that we can live in peace and learn to accept what makes us all different. Seeing those unique qualities and walks of life as positives and not negatives. I think that that’s worth fighting for.

So! Guardian, are you ready for what comes next? Because there is a lot of work to be done. But if we can overcome our differences and work together, nothing is impossible.
